Winnipeg, Manitoba AI-A-THON: A Harbour Collective and Video Pool Media Arts Centre Artificial Intelligence (AI) LAB, July 7-9, 2023
CALL FOR INDIGENOUS ARTISTS
Harbour Collective, in partnership with Video Pool Media Arts Centre, are responding to the disproportionate and biased imagery of Indigenous art within artificial intelligence and machine learning. The AI-A-THON will bring together four facilitators and up to 15 guest Indigenous artists to contribute to the development of contemporary First Nation, Metis and Inuit artists represented within the AI environment through a series of online and in person LABs. Together we will add more appropriate images to the dataset, learn about AI and develop new ways of working through online and in person gatherings, including the development of toolkits through our pilot initiative for Indigi-queer, non-binary and two spirit artists.
The AI-A-THON will include introductions to AI, Dalle E and MidJourney over two evening sessions in June, and three days on site. Friday will be in the evening with an introduction and review of activities that are going to take place and Saturday July 8th from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday July 9th from 10 am to 4 pm to create datasets using AI software.
Participants must bring laptops with the capacity to add Dalle-E and any other software needed. Discord might be used for communications. Details surrounding software will be discussed, set up and shared through a link provided by the facilitator.

Transportation
